For those who wish to donate to public causes who are searching for a way to further American ideology, namely that we are a people who subscribe to the principle of freedom for all, we suggest you consider donating to Weldon Publications. Its books have this powerful effect upon readers. In the past small publishers underwrote some of our finest authors, but were snuffed out for lack of competitive capital. Weldon Publications has picked up the challenge to give society great books. The wonderful writings it produces lift the heart and soul and perhaps may even be as a bridge of understanding between cultures. Your gift to Weldon would be of far greater impact than its monetary value might suggest. Weldon Publications, designated by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation, is an educational publishing house which publishes five-star rated historical books saluting American valor. Its books break new ground both in style of writing and in substance, and are considered as definitive works which preserve and bring forward history otherwise to be lost. American history comes alive.

Weldon’s corporate letterhead defines the educational purpose to be served, ‘To maximize knowledge through superior writings.’ Weldon’s books are doing just that, earning accolades from reviewers and distinguished readers. This summary of Those Brave Crews appears on the book back cover:

Colonel Ray Ward’s magnificent Those Brave Crews, published in 1989 and again reprinted in 2003, is best described: The Epic Raid to Destroy Hitler’s Oil Fields, follows the fortunes of American aircraft on their suicidal mission against the vital Ploesti (Roumania) oil fields. With him you will follow each different crew, sit in the pilot’s seat, and share the unique experience of gunners dueling eye-to-eye with enemy flak crews. The sacrifice and dedication of these men rivals other famous events of history, such as the cavalry charge of the Crimea, Pickett’s assault at Gettysburg, or Xenephon’s March. It is a sweeping, epic work you will long remember.

So profound have been the reactions to this book, it must be treated as a break-though text book in the teaching of history in institutions of learning. Were Weldon Publications, Inc. properly funded to achieve cost saving size press runs, these savings could be passed on in school discounts.

Educators and military commanders alike have eulogized this book:

USAF Academy/Carl Reddel, Professor and Head Department of History –It is an unique and wonderful book. (Considered a ‘definitive work’ by Academy publication.)

University of East Anglia/School of English and American Studies – multiple orders of copies

General Jimmy Doolittle –You describe very interestingly he experiences of the combat pilot- (In second letter) I value this book more than any other in my personal library.

Jimmy Stewart (actor) – Excellent work….For all the crews and the entire Air Force.

USAF Museum, Dayton, OH – three times designated ‘feature book’

Ted Savis, publishing consultant –What you have achieved is more than one in 1,000 authors. Something truly lasting. I was hooked and amazed by what you have created.

Air Force Association – Meritorious Achievement Citation

Dan Levin, Marine Corps author/Journalism Professor – Vibrant, full of images of life, and moving…I find (the writing) inspiring. And so is the story it tells. How far reaching your knowledge, the details of flight, of gunnery, of men’s psychology…dreams. And the repeated glorious turns of phrase, and concept sweep… Wow!

Thousands of war veterans and their family members have expressed gratitude for this tribute. Commented former B-24 pilot Paul Lovejoy You can see the smoke

Bomb Group member David Loughrie Lumps still come in my throat and tears trickle down my cheek when I read THOSE BRAVE CREWS.

While these writings have been called Homeric, it is equally true epic narrative qualities are to be found in the writings of Milton and also in a very limited number of writers through the centuries, for reason this book will survive. More aptly, Ward’s reads like ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade.’ There is pulse and dramatic imagery. That explains why, at an 8th Air Force event when Ward read a few lines at a memorial service, thereafter at dinner a big burley ex-colonel stated to the author, “I hate poetry. But I like yours!” Ward may be considered beyond the pale of today’s word stylists, but then again those who write as they do cannot induce the range and depth of emotion Ward does. Stated WW II widow Barbara Apter, upon returning from a visit to a National Cemetery – “I was thrilled to learn of your Second Edition. I have been reading and rereading it since my return. What a wonderful book it is!!”
